Christian Contemplative Christ Centered Prayer Retreat
Join the Rev. Sandra Casey-Martus, former Director of the Alta Retreat Center in Wyoming, and Carla Mancari for an intensive (primarily silent)
retreat of Christ Centered Prayer, engagement of Sacred Scripture, optional daily celebration of the Holy Eucharist, and theological reflections
on the spiritual journey.
Under the direction of the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ, Christ Center Prayer is a simple, silent practice of awareness within one's spiritual heart center. Christ Centered Prayer distills traditional contemplative practice while responding effectively and obediently to Jesus’ invitation to, "Come unto me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28).
For those unfamiliar with the practice of Christ Centered Prayer, an introduction will be given at the start of each retreat. Optional one-on-one spiritual direction will be available daily, and intensive retreats are conducted in an atmosphere of silence, solitude, and simplicity.

Christ Centered Prayer retreats are imbued with attentive listening and kindness amidst the natural oceanfront beauty of the Mustang Island Conference Center. Participants will enjoy private or double occupancy rooms with private baths/showers and private ocean-front views; moreover, hammocks, bicycles, endless shore to walk, pleasant coastal breezes, truly exceptional cuisine served with a casual elegance, and warm Texas hospitality will further enhance your stay. Daily theological reflection sessions will be in conversation with Casey-Martus and Mancari’s recently published book, “The Lessons: How to Understand Spiritual Principles, Spiritual Activities, and Rising Emotions.” Participants may purchase “The Lessons” ahead of time from Amazon.com, or at the conference center opening night.
