Options to Learn Christ Centered Prayer

#1 An Instructive Eucharist: Christ Centered Prayer

One participatory way of imparting the method of Christ Centered Prayer is within the context of the Celebration of Holy Eucharist. The liturgical rite allows flexibility in the selection of scriptural lessons and provides time for teaching. An introductory power point presentation on Christ Centered Prayer is projected in conversation with gospel readings selected from Matthew's Sermon on the Mount. This method of teaching takes about an hour and a half. It works well in a church setting. It does require access to a CD projector and screen to project the power point.

#2 An Introductory Workshop

A two-hour talk introducing the method of Christ Centered Prayer may be arranged. The lecture discusses the place of prayer in the Christian tradition using Jesus as a model, scripture as a reference, and acknowledges tradition as the custodian. The workshop includes basic instruction, time to practice and a session for questions and answers. Access to a black/white board, flip chart, or screen and power point projector is necessary.

Having learned the method of Christ Centered Prayer it is helpful to join a prayer group. Attending weekend or weeklong retreats may also help to deepen and strengthen the practice while resting, studying, and sharing questions/answers/experiences with others.
